Bush articulates doctrine

Bush spoke today in London about the reason for an Iraq war.

“In some cases the measured use of force is all that protects us from a chaotic world ruled by force,” President Bush explained.

What he’s getting at is a perspective of the world that believes interactions between nations are anarchic, and that to seek stability among more volatile regions of the world should be priority number one for a nation in our position.

I agree. For if the United States doesn’t play policeman, who else will? World War I, II, the fight against Communism, against Iraqi aggression in Kuwait–the United States has played the role of world protector for some time now.

And if no one else wishes to help us out, we’ll do it alone if need be, although that’s not necessary this time. If not, maybe we would be listening to Hussein give his latest and greatest.
