A leader of the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, has been killed in an Israeli military helicopter strike. Two of his bodyguards were also killed when missiles were fired at the car they were riding in.
An Israeli military helicopter launched a barrage of missiles at Mr. Rantisi’s car, as it drove through Gaza City late Saturday.
Mr. Rantisi’s death comes just weeks after an Israeli helicopter strike killed the spiritual leader of Hamas, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.
Hamas, the Islamic Resistance Movement, has carried out numerous suicide bombings and other terror attacks that have killed hundreds of Israelis.
