How much worse is Kerry?

by on March 4th, 2004

In a comment on Dustin’s post (“Kerry a liberal, not moderate“), Mike Thomas asked a rather interesting question. I felt my reply to be too important for leaving in the comments, so I am answering it here. The question:

So Kerry is supposedly a big scary liberal. How is that any worse than what we are stuck with now?

In answer to your last question – Kerry views terrorism as a law enforcement issue as opposed to a military issue.

We tried and convicted those responsible for the first World Trade Center attack. This was followed by two embassy bombings, the bombing of the USS Cole and 9/11. Clearly, dealing with terrorism as a criminal matter did not produce satisfactory results in the past. Ask yourself this, since the Bush administration made terrorism a military issue how many of our embassies have been bombed, how many ships at port, how many civilians have been killed by terrorists on U.S. soil?

All other issues are ultimately subordinate to national security, To the safety of American citizens.

As to your wish that we discuss Kerry’s Liberal record, I would start with the following list of weapons systems opposed by Kerry. Weapons that have proven vital in the fight against terrorism and in keeping America safe:

The Trident Submarine; The Bradley Fighting Vehicle; The AV-8B Harrier Jet; The Patriot Missile Defense System; The M1 Abrams Tank; The Aegis Air Defense Cruiser; The B-2 Stealth Bomber; The Tomahawk Missile; The Apache Helicopter.

Mark Steyn Online, where I found the list, provides a detailed look at each of they systems, including Kerry’s stated opinion and the role each system currently plays in our national security.
