Kerry: Agriculture Department not needed

by on January 17th, 2004

Yesterday, Drudge reported that Democratic presidential candidate and Iowa front-runner John Kerry proposed in 1996 to scrap the Agriculture Department.

In 1996 Senator John Kerry proposed to “get rid of the Agriculture Department,” the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

But the real news is that The Washington Times UPI cites the Drudge Report as a credible news authority as their only source in a Friday article.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, once called for the abolition of the U.S. Agriculture Department, the Drudge Report said Friday.

And why not? He’s been right before. He broke the Monica story in 1998, Jack Kemp as Bob Dole’s running mate in 1996, and countless others that found their way into print only after Drudge beat ’em to the punch.

It’s the ultimate triumph of one man’s struggle to overcome the influence of mass media and editorial content control. Maybe it borders on gossip journalism, but I, personally, would rather not have my news censored. I’ll take absolute freedom of the press any day of the week.
