Word ‘terrorist’ no longer politically correct

by on November 23rd, 2003

In a refusal to use the word “terrorist,” The Seattle Times joins the growing list of media outlets confusing terrorism with regular criminal activity.

Gunmen killed two civilian Israeli security guards near Jerusalem last night as they were keeping watch near the West Bank barrier that Israel is building, Israeli security officials said.

The confusion seems to be spreading to the Daily Times as well.

Gunmen shot dead two Israeli security guards on Saturday.

The Age calls them “Palestinian gunmen.”

Palestinian gunmen shot at the watchmen, who were in a jeep, from a nearby valley.

Removing all doubt that the “gunmen” were indeed terrorists, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades quickly claimed responsibility.

The hardline Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a largely autonomous militant group linked to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat’s mainstream Fatah movement, claimed responsibility for the ambush in a statement to AFP.

All three have in common the confusion of a terrorist dead with a criminal deed. It’s shameful.
